This site was created by people who do not want Cary to become a "Gravel Pit Community." However, Meyer Material Co. is petitioning the Village for a change in zoning laws to allow them to expand their current Algonquin pit.  If approved, this pit will

• increase pollution, noise and dust coming into Cary and the Fox Trails subdivision
• increase the chances of groundwater contamination
• lower property values
• open Cary up to further mining
• lower the health and standard of living of the residents of Cary

Several hundred people have spoken out against the pit and signed a petition to communicate their disapproval. The decision now lies with the Board of Trustees of the Village of Cary.

Meyer Material Co. is offering the Village a donation of $250,000 a year for the duration of the mining operation. But we feel that money is not worth the danger and the lowering of our quality of life.

How did you get the domain?

The Village of Cary only purchased the domain "caryillinois.com." We, when planning this site, noticed that other versions of the domain were available.  So we bought caryillinois.info, .net and .org.

Is this site legal?

Absolutely. Political speech is the most protected type of speech. Just look at other sites like this one, expecially whitehouse.org. This site has been criticized by the current administration, but all attempts to shut it down have failed due to the fact that we have a First Amendment that protects speech. This is what allows shows like The Daily Show to remain on-air.

What do you hope to gain from this site?

Awareness of the issue.  To demonstrate in a creative and thought-provoking way the ramifications of turning Cary into a "gravel pit community."
